RS-422

What is RS-422?

It is one of the serial interface standards established by the IEA for communicating devices with each other.

Signal level

Unlike RS-232C, the transmitting side uses "TxD +" and "TxD-", and the receiving side uses "RxD +" and "RxD-" as a set of two signal lines.

The two signals are always transmitted in an inverted state, and a differential signal is used to distinguish between 0 and 1.

Standard, method

Cable length Transmission speed Number of connectable units I/O methods
1200m or less 10Mbps 1 : 10(Max.) Balanced type(differential type)

Balanced type (differential type): A method of transmitting signals using two wires.
Compared to the unbalanced type, this method is more resistant to noise and suitable for long-distance transmission.

Pin array

Unlike RS-232C, RS-422 does not have a connector requirement.
Therefore, the number and arrangement of connector pins may differ depending on the device used.
